Innovative Paths to Breakthrough R&DBG Medicine

Translational Medicine

The ability to compare subtle differences at the molecular level make the BG Medicine platform ideal for translational medicine.

Pre-clinical Model Selection

Choosing the optimal animal model is paramount to translating preclinical results into clinical success of your development programs. BG Medicine can compare the biochemical fingerprints of disease and of drug response in different animal models to identify the closest and most relevant match with human pathophysiology.

Body Fluid Biomarkers

Biomarkers derived from bodily fluids require minimally invasive collection methods and are desirable for use in clinical trials and in post approval monitoring. These easily accessible fluids (e.g. plasma, serum, urine) are available as surrogate markers for tissue effects seen in preclinical testing and can be commercialized into companion diagnostics to capitalize on market opportunities. BG Medicine’s Correlation Network™ analyses are designed to identify sensitive biomarkers in bodily fluids which are specific to upstream effects in the target tissue. Further, endogenous metabolites being invariant across species can particularly facilitate translation from preclinical results to humans.

Natural Groupings and Translational Analysis

These images, which represent data comprising proteins, lipids, amino acids and other endogenous analytes, illustrate graphically the high degree of correlation between a specific animal (rodent) model of disease (right) and human disease (left) across more than 100 analytes in plasma (r = +0.7 across species).
